Current Projects

Neurological facilities in many developing countries are limited due to budget while some don’t have any permanent neurological staff or EEG and MRI equipment.  Many people living in the suburbs of these countries are depending on the likes of natural medicines, religion and witch doctors to help treat their epilepsy because they are too far away from medical practices and can’t afford proper medicines.

In many countries there is also a lack of understanding as to what the causes of epilepsy are. Many people with epilepsy are being isolated due to a common fear of the condition being a disease. But when people learn about epilepsy they are always pleased to know they can still be friends without catching anything.

So the Epilepsy Footprint aim is to provide more funding in developing countries for:

  • accessibility to medical centres & medicines
  • provision of epilepsy support groups to raise awareness
  • provision of epilepsy education in schools
  • re-training of people with epilepsy
  • negotiating with governments & medical organisations
  • public education through media interviews

Our main project at the moment is supporting the Gambia Epilepsy Association by providing funds towards

  • provision of prescriptions for epilepsy treatment
  • transport for their members to epilepsy clinics
  • nets to provide protection from malarial mosquitoes
  • epilepsy education to schools in rural parts of the country
  • skills training for unemployed people with epilepsy
  • office facilities
